It can be a 30 to 45 minute drive just from the East entrance to the visitor center. If you have to park in Springdale and wait for a shuttle bus, that can take another 20 minutes or so as the town buses will come by every 15 minutes.
Jason was our driver for our day trip to Zion. Good communication before our trip. We had a small van of 5. Jason pointed out sites along the way and gave us several tips for inside the park. Ice water provided and stops for snacks/food both ways. Zion was spectacular and highly recommended.Re: A couple tips on Zion (and some dissapointment..) kfpanda1, there was a rock slide on the road. I'm not sure when or how long it lasted, but that may have been one reason the east entrance was closed. They also closed it when they felt the traffic in the park was too heavy during the memorial day weekend.
