There are tons of condos for rent with varying prices. You should read a bunch of recent posts about this and you’ll get an idea of places. For me this is the breakdown. The Big Island had the best snorkeling in Hawaii, Kauai the worst. Hotels like the Mauna Lani are much more Hawaiiana than most Kauai offerings. But for topside "quintessential" beauty, Kauai has the Big Island beat all kinds of ways, especially the north shore which will be at its best in summer.

Love, love, love the Big Island :) Day 1 - arrived Kona airport in the evening, car rental and check into Waikaloa Fairway Villas. Many of the competitors and their families stay before and afterwards, selling out accommodations and rental cars. Rental rates are greatly increased because of the demand.
